You can fool some of the people some of the time but you can’t fool all the people all the time. Let’s get real here…while official China will never admit it openly, they are as aggressive as any other nation in promoting their values/interests even if that means promoting them militarily. Moreover, China’s history of the last one hundred or so years makes it reasonable that they want to show Asia and the World that everyone should think twice about pushing them around as has most clearly been illustrated in China’s more belligerent stance on say Taiwan and Japan…using words that are anything but “peace-loving.” If you want to be a player (and China does) then you gotta be able to live a player lifestyle (read: continuous scrutiny and criticism from all).
