CNET 56: Baidu news and gossip site now in English

Via the indispensable China Web 2.0 Review, I see that Baidu news and gossip site Baiduer has launched an English version. Love or hate Baidu, they are one of the most interesting and influential Internet companies in China. For anyone interesting in tracking the evolution of Baidu's services and in following coverage about them, this will be a useful site. This is especially true for people who, like me, find reading Chinese slow and laborious or simply impossible.

However, Baiduer does suffer from the Chinese media and website inclination to republish other people's work without attribution. Here, for instance, is my CNET Asia post of January 29th on Baidu's evolution into a media company, republished in full without any attribution or link to the original post.

So there's still room for improvement. Nevertheless, it's an interesting site for anyone following the Internet in China. Check it out.

Note: Cross posted on CNET Asia.
