The Big Man finds a bride
Aggregated Source: China Rises: Notes from the Middle Kingdom
Okay, okay, I should be doing serious work. And here I am delving into tabloid journalism stuff. But it’s just too curious. The guy above is Bao Xishun, the world's tallest man, according to Guinness Book of World Records. He lives in remote Inner Mongolia and he found a bride this week.
Bao towers overhead at 7-foot-nine-inches (2.36 meters). His bride, Xia Shujian, is 5-foot-five (1.68 meters).
It caught my eye because Bao made news in a weird way last December. Click here to see a photo of him reaching his 42-inch-long arm into the maw of a dolphin.
A seaworld-type park in Fushun city had two sick dolphins that had swallowed pieces of plastic. Veterinarians said they couldn’t get the plastic out, so Bao was called to the rescue. Sounds like a publicity stunt, doesn’t it? In any case, Bao found himself on a number of Chinese newspaper front pages performing a rescue reach to pull the plastic out.
Bao, by the way, is 56 years old and a veteran of the People’s Liberation Army basketball team before rheumatism felled him. Xia is 28.
