Gmail Space Just Not Enough

Is it just me, or do other people also find themselves often deleting messages from Gmail because of space limitations? About once a month I need to delete messages in order to reduce my space from about 98% full down to a safe 45-50%.

Today I went in and deleted about 4500 spam messages, but that only reduced me by about 2%. I have now lost lots of messages over the past 6 months in my Sent and Inbox areas in order to give myself free space.

One of my colleagues had mail to his Gmail account bouncing last week too and he had to go in and delete stuff. I found that he too needs to do a mass delete every couple of months to free-up space.

Don't get my wrong, I like the free Gmail service and I have my own personal server tied to my own domain name where I backup more important things, but Gmail's claim that users never have to delete anything is not true.
