A Tree Grows in Dongtan

Aggregated Source: the black China hand
April 24, 2007|

Dongtan was presented at the United Nations World Urban Forum by China as an example of an eco-city, and is the first of up to four such cities to be designed and built in China by Arup, a global design and engineering company.

On the borders of one of the World’s more environmentally unfriendly nations and cities (Shanghai) grows a nearly 100% green city. Its succesful or failure will have much to say about the small but growing green revolution in China and beyond. What gets me is that this experiment is happening in…China. Aren’t there more appropriate locals for it to happen? Aren’t they setting it up to fail or at least make success more difficult?
