More U.S.-China Trade Tension

This almost makes me laugh (I’ll explain after the quote):

The United States has called on China to improve its compliance with World Trade Organization (WTO) anti-dumping rules, diplomats said on Tuesday.

The call, at a meeting of the WTO’s committee on anti-dumping practices, included an irritable exchange that was a further sign of tension between the two countries.

Everyone is talking these days about a deterioration in the trading relationship, yes? Perhaps the chief concern of both countries is a return to protectionism in one form or another. It is the interests of both Washington and Beijing to minimize protectionist tendencies.

So what are we arguing about now? Anti-dumping, perhaps the most egregious, although unfortunately legal, means of protecting a domestic market from overseas competition.

This is a bad omen.
