Hot Stuff

Tim Johnson blogs about the heat. Reminds me that I have not mentioned why I’ve been so cranky lately. It’s been cold here in Beijing for a couple weeks already, but my apartment building has not turned on the heat yet. It’s freakin’ cold at home, and although it does not seem to bother my wife too much, our cat is bitching and moaning and complaining at all hours of the night because he’s not warm enough. He’s a rather spoiled cat.

Last week the classes I taught were in an unheated room as well, which was not fun. This week’s IP classes were smaller and heated, so we seem to be making some progress. Moreover, we’ve had heat at the office for well over a week. I’m thinking of bringing a sleeping bag and just living here for a few days. If anyone asks, I’ll just say that I’m working on a private equity transaction - those guys actually do live in the office.

I hope the news is true and that the coal furnaces will be working overtime today. Not all of us live in swanky foreign compounds with lavish amenities - like heat.

This could very well be the most pathetic, sorry-ass post I’ve ever written. For that reason alone, however, I will go ahead and upload it.
