Hairless Chiang Kai-shek: Why?

When I was a child, I often heard people called Mr. Chiang Kai-shek “balding Chiang” in a sarcastic way. However, it is still a mystery when and why Mr. Chiang was hairless. Some mainland Chinese writers defamed him that it is due to his debauchery

Then I found some jokes about that on the internet:

A: Why was Mr. Chiang bald?

B: Because he wants to tell us that monks can also use shampoo.

C: He wants to get his personality. And it can help him flee to Taiwan more quickly.

D: Because Madame Song loves hairless man.

E: He was too idle to wash his hair.

What is the fact?  Does it concern with “the New Life Movement” in the 1930s?
