Some 60 percent of Chinas doctors have personally experienced, or have seen their colleagues subjected to, on-the-job violence from patients or their families, a survey revealed.

Whoa! Life is bad enough for medical professionals in China. They often work in difficult conditions. Administratively, hospital management has them working long hours with few days off. And from a resources standpoint (or lack of resources/materials) they work for pennies (nowhere near US salary levels). And to run the risk of being attacked by your patients or their families is too much. While I have heard stories that some medical professionals are rotten to the core by exacting bribes to perform services for pushing products that companies pay them to push without care of the effects. I would hope that most medical professionals are dedicated, hardworking people. Perhaps though the problem is that traditionally the sick were cared for by their family so then when another actor (hospital doctors, nurses and staff) are injected in-between the patient and family member they suffer the consequences of any adverse results.¹ However, if it continues at such high levels surely that will drive those people that want to enter the medical field still lower. Could there eventually be a crisis in the number of medical professionals in service in China?
