Wang Ping, a reviewer in China suggested abandoning the simplified Chinese over 50 years in his post at Sina.com, which aroused a lot of controversy on the internet.
”Adopting the simplified Chinese was to pave the way for the phonetic transcription for the Chinese characters, and it has proven a blind alley.” Wang said. Chinese government decided to simplify the Chinese characters in 1964. Since then, they had been widely used in mainland China.
It also causes harm to cultural classics, which were written in traditional Chinese, Wang added.
However, an official from the Ministry of Education claimed that it was impossible to abandon the simplified Chinese, which was the trend of Chinese character.
In my view, we should take a more reasonable stand on it. That is, we need to understand the traditional Chinese to learn to read the classics, as well as to communicate with people from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. Nonetheless, it is unnecessary to abandon the simplified Chinese we used now.
