Deng Pufang and Hu Deping, the sons of two iconic Chinese leaders are likely to become the top officials of the CPPCC, the country’s political advisory body, according to Reuters. (Hu Deping was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the Dream of the Red Chamber, China’s best-known classic novel. That sounds very interesting~) .
Both of them were expected to serve as vice-Chairmen of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, if confirmed, which means both of them become national leaders.
63-year-old Deng Pufang was the son of Deng Xiaoping, who was responsible for the market-oriented reforms that helped stimulate rapid growth of China’s economy since 1978. And 65-year-old Hu Deping the son of Hu Yaobang, who was purged in 1987 for being too liberal.
Mr. Hu was picked by Deng in 1992 as China’s fourth generation leader after Mao Zedong, Deng himself and Jiang Zemin. Before that Hu worked in the Communist Youth League and then headed by Hu Yaobang. As both Deng Xiao and Hu Yaobang were patrons of Hu Jintao, the promotion was considered as Hu’s repaying a debt of gratitude. It will also gain him popularity among the princelings, the children of incumbent, retired or late leaders.
