In the Hutong

Looking for my MS Office Master DVD
2337 hrs.

During my interview late last week with Christine Lu at China Business Network, we got to talking about a challenge so many of us face in the service industries in China: helping clients and others who are unfamiliar with China get up the learning curve quickly enough.

As a part of that process, I find myself frequently providing – or being asked to provide – reading lists for people who want to learn as much as they can from websites, books, magazines and whatever before actually coming here or starting their China-related position.

So rather than have to keep rewriting that email, I'm providing my lists (with some explanations) as a part of Silicon Hutong. If you look over to your left, at the top of the left-hand column you will find an area marked "Hutong Resources." Under that you will find a link to "China 101," and eventually to "China 102" and "China 103." These are links to a suggested basic library of history- and business-heavy reading that I have found helpful for myself.

Those of you out there with some reading and China experience under your belts, shoot me your thoughts as well. Let me know what helped you in your learning process and why, and I might add that to one of the lists.
