Solemn, please!
Aggregated Source: Jiang's Vision and ActionNotes on Meditations by Marcus Aurelius:
A philosopher once said that all the problems of philosophy could be summarized as that, whether should man suicide or not, as it is humiliating for the human being to lead a meaningless life. However, if we think it in another way, we will find an answer to this question that we can grasp the meaning of life only when we are fighting against the ridiculous and boring life just as most people around you are living.
Notes on Bible:
I felt wearisome by reading this book for a long time, maybe I prefer the narrative in the bible, or even poetry would be much better.
Notes on Mencius
I read the Mencius again. When Mencius met King Xiang of State Liang and answered his question on how to stabilize the state, he said, it depends on one thing that the king who took no pleasure in killing the people would unite the whole country.
——天下惡乎定?吾對曰:定於一。
——孰能一之?對曰:不嗜殺人者能一之。
The beginning of this story is also very attractive: Mencius visited King Xiang of State Liang. He came out and told others:"when I looked at him at a far distance, the king didn't appear like a ruler, when I come near to him, I saw nothing venerable in him.
望之不似人君,就之而不見所畏焉。
From this I learned that a leader should be cautious at solemn occasions, especially in front of his staff.
