Questions You Really Shouldn’t Ask

"What Makes Chinese Wine Red?"

Made be shudder just thinking about it. But I read the story anyway (h/t Digital Times).

Reminds me of a job I had in law school. I was an intern at the Department of Health in Boston, the legal affairs office, which covers not only the health department but Boston City Hospital.

My boss had been working there for a while and told me about the times that she talked to city inspectors about restaurant investigations. The folks that do that for a living (and apparently the lawyers they work with) basically cannot go out to eat at restaurants. After years of looking at rat feces, cockroaches, human abominations, and overall lack of cleanliness, the thought of actually eating at one of those filth factories was impossible for these folks.

I say ignorance is bliss. I don't want to know about what the kitchen looks like at my favorite restaurants. As long as I don't get sick (too often), just gimme my food and shut up. It's the food version of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

So no, I'd rather not know what makes my wine red.
